about

Incitatus was the horse of the Roman emperor Caligula. Incitatus had a stable of marble, with an ivory manger, purple blankets, and a collar of precious stones. The horse was attended to by servants and was fed oats mixed with gold flake. Caligula planned to make Incitatus a consul, and that the horse would "invite" dignitaries to dine with him in a house outfitted with servants there to entertain such events.

lyrics

A shiny purple coat
For an always tacit priest
Eating golden oats
A jewel-necklaced beast

It shines plain irony
A steady consul oath
Animal insanity
For the senate to loathe

INCITATUS! INCITATUS!

The dinner is placed
In the ivory trough
Sneering at their hate
His sarcastic scoff

A house made of marble
In the unicorn dome
Under the crafty corbel
A fortune for Rome

INCITATUS! INCITATUS!
